Connecticut Guide to Rustic Farm and Barn Wedding Venues

There are so many rustic wedding barns and farm venues in Connecticut.  The list seems to grow every day.  I have listed the ones I have photographed but it is not by any means a comprehensive list.  If I have excluded a venue, it is mainly because I have not photographed there before. 

When writing this article, I struggled how to choose which venues to list and how to organize and group the different venues.  Being equal to all venues,  I decided to list the venues by group size as that can be a big determining factor on which venue would be right for your wedding needs.

I will start off with the venues that are smaller in size regarding the guest count  and move to the larger ones.

 

 

Small Rustic Barn and Farm Wedding Venues

Powder Mill Barn

Enfield, Connecticut

The Powder Mill Barn is a charming, historic barn and a big part of Connecticut History located in Enfield Connecticut next to the Scantic River.  Barn owner Polly Sweet was born and raised in the barn when it was owned by her father and used for square dancing and other community functions.  The barn has been in the family history for generations and dates back to 1845.  The barn rustic interior echoes the history of barn.  Over the last few years Polly has done a lot of renovations to the barn and property. 

The barn holds about 100 guests

On site catering is not available so you would have to hire your own caterers or vendor trucks

The barn has no air conditioning so most weddings take place during the spring, fall and early winter months.

At the time of this writing there is no bridal suite for getting ready but that may be changing in the future as Polly continues to modernize the barn

 

 

Bluebird Farm

Willington, Connecticut

Bluebird Farm is a one-of-a kind unique wedding venue offering a working farm with tons of farm animals, and numerous room accommodations including a loft room over one of the barns and the most incredible tree house air bnb. A smaller barn on the property seats up to 100 people and there is lots of room for a tent for larger parties. A scenic outdoor ceremony with the farm and hills in the back makes for stunning photos.  Numerous barns, structures, and flower gardens make it a rustic photo paradise as well as a kid and family friendly venue where you can feed and pet the goats and other animals. 

Their farm includes goats, sheep, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, and more.  The kids and guests love feeding and interacting with the animals.  Carmen and Joe live on and run the farm and are the most incredible hosts.  One thing is for sure “You will feel the Love” at Bluebird Farm.

Cedarbrook Barn

Lisbon, Connecticut

Cedarbrook Barn in Jewel City is a unique rustic wedding venue.  The property is spread out over 40 acres of land with numerous photo spots including a pond, large covered bridge, cedar tree forest and the barn itself which is a recent build.  There is a loft in the barn which can be used for getting ready photos.  The property is secluded and takes you away from it all. 

Note:  No in house catering provided so you would have to secure your own caterer.

Also, there is no air conditioning in the barn and weddings are booked usually in the cooler months.

 

The Hinterland

Avon, Connecticut

 

The Hinterland is a budget friendly build your own barn wedding venue.  The bones are provided in the historic barn and you build the rest.  The 2100 square foot barn is surrounded on 3 sides by a horse farm, meadows and trees on the property bringing the “country feeling” to your photos.  The interior of the barn is “rustic” indeed, bringing a sense of history to your photos.  A small bridal suite for getting ready photos is present.  Numerous packages and add on options are available to fit your needs and budget including ceremony arch rental, outdoor tent set up, clean up crew, day of coordinator, sip social bar and table set up and on site crew.

Wood Acres Farm

Terryville, Connecticut

Wood Acres Farm is a family farm established in 1972 in Terryville.  The farm contains 25 acres of wood trails a pond, numerous rustic structures and unlimited photo opportunities. It a picturesque and unique rustic barn wedding venue.  The venue has a beautiful wrap around deck, large wedding hall, bridal suite, and ceremony grounds with beautiful backdrops.  Horse and carriage rides for the bride to the ceremony and during cocktail hour for photos is another unique and bonus.

140 guest max no minimum requirements.

Note: Venue is climate controlled and has A/C. No in house catering is provided.

The Web Barn

Old Weathersfield, Connecticut

The Web Barn is one of Connecticut’s oldest Barn Wedding Venues.  The barn itself was built in the 19^th century and is run by the Webb Deane Stevens Museum.   The grounds of the venue include large canopy trees, grass and a beautiful colonial revival flower garden at the neighboring museum.  The large doors of the barn are a unique feature and the grounds and aesthetes of the barn are rooted in Connecticut History.

Note: There is no air conditioning in the barn.  On site catering is not provided.

The Whittemore at Vyne

Middlebury, Connecticut

The Vnye at Whittemore is rustic chic wedding venue with a modern upgraded  interior reception room.  Mid-size ceremony area outside as well as numerous statues, waterfalls and gardens make for beautiful photos.  A large bridal suite and cocktail hour room are added benefits.  For a classy rustic vibe this is venue for you.  The bar next door is great for afterparty being just a short walk across the parking lot.

The Barns at Wesleyan Hills

Middletown, Connecticut

The Barns and Wesleyan Hills dates back to 150 years.  The barn interior is beautiful with large beams and weathered wood.  Lots of portrait opportunities exist including the pond surrounded by willow trees, bridges and forests.

The barn is climate controlled for any year weddings.  The food is on level above many venues.  CT wedding group runs the venue and does an amazing job.  There is a large bridal suite.  The Barns is so charming and makes for a one-of-a-kind wedding day.

The Pavilion on Crystal Lake

Middletown, Connecticut

The Pavilion on Crystal Lake is a charming and unique rustic wedding venue on the shores of Crystal Lake in Middletown, Connecticut.  The venue is operated by CT Wedding Group so you are in the best of hands. Other notable features of the venue is a beautiful outdoor ceremony area in the pines with a gazebo and wooden benches which makes for stunning ceremony photos and portraits in general. The venue located on Crystal Lake makes for great water feature photos as well.  The interior is very open and spacious with high ceiling and wood plank walls.  It is climate controlled and comfortable.

Nuzzo's Farm

Branford, Connecticut

Nuzzo's Farm is a quaint rustic wedding venue in Branford, Connecticut. The venue is immaculately kept by owners Tony and Audra.  It began as a Christmas tree farm turned rustic wedding venue.  Every niche and corner of the venue inside and out is adorned with rustic touches of love. In addition to its rustic charm, the venue offers stunning views of pasture, a pond and incredible sunsets over the distant hills.  The venue has a large bridal suite for getting ready photos a large bar and nice banquet hall with glass and open views.  There is a lovely rustic gazebo and ceremony area. The venue is home to an assortment of animals including donkeys and goats making it a kid friendly venue.

Holbrook Farm

Granby, Connecticut

Set on 312 acres, Holbrook Farm is a gem of a rustic wedding farm venue in the Farmington River Valley of North Connecticut. The historic large barn and working farm/land trust are owned by the town of Granby.  The grounds of the farm are stunning, expansive and beautiful in all directions, they bring a sense of space and that "big country feeling" to your photos.  The main parts of the barn have been updated and modernized.  That includes the main venue hall, restrooms and small bridal suite.  There is an open “groom room” in the workshop for guys getting ready.  This historic, rustic yet modern and chic farm venue awaits your wedding dreams.

The White Barn at South Farms

Morris, Connecticut

If you are a lover of wide open spaces, a pastoral landscape with stunning views and Connecticut farming history this is a great wedding venue for you.  South Farms is a long established family farm converted into a wedding venue. The main barn can hold from 50-150 people.  There are numerous buildings on the property including the main reception barn, with a loft that contains a bridal suite.  There is a smaller barn for ceremonies and two bars for the cocktail hour.  Rain or shine your wedding ceremony needs are covered.  The main barn is climate controlled and has been renovated with a clean, industrial vibe.  The barn sits on 150 acres making for many backdrops for portraits.  Onsite catering is provided. The food is fantastic and the staff are well trained and ready to make for an amazing wedding experience.

Barns at Stonehurst

Hampton, Connecticut

Barns at Stonehurst is another Connecticut gem located in the quite corner of Connecticut in Hampton, Connecticut on 90 acres of land with forest, a creek, and fields.  There are two venues on the property, Stonehurst Mansion which is a unique a-frame style stone building for smaller weddings and the Barns at Stonehurst which is a modern, rustic chic large rustic barn.  The barn is climate controlled and features a large bar.  The barn itself is ultra-modern large post and beam structure. The barn is well lit, spacious, open and elegant with concrete floors. 

There is a large bridal suite downstairs with for the girls as well as a rustic groom room for getting ready photos of the groom and groomsmen.  There is a nice ceremony area next to the barns in the enchanted forest.  A trolly shuttle is available on property to transport guests to and from the ceremony area as well as for photos of the bride, groom and wedding party.  The grounds and landscapes is meticulously kept and you can tell that the owners put a lot of money and effort into making the barns and grounds be A plus excellent.

Wyndcrest Estate

Bethlehem, Connecticut

Wyndcrest Estate is a large barn venue located in the Litchfield hills of Connecticut in Bethlehem.  It is located on 30 acres on a hill overlooking a large equine facility with a barn and fences which make for a beautiful backdrop for photos.  A large rustic barn/chapel is great for ceremonies in inclement weather as well as the large grounds for outdoor ceremonies.  It clean, spacious, and well lit.

Wyndcrest is a build your own wedding venue that provides the space and bones for your wedding day.  You need to provide your own vendors including outside caterers.  Heat and AC can be added through outside contractors for an additional fee.

There are two onsite accommodations at the Kasson House and Lakes house that can serve as a getting ready location as well. 

There is much potential here to build and make for a tailored to fit wedding experience.

Wright’s Mill Farm

Canterbury, Connecticut

Wright’s mill farm located in Cantebury Connecticut on over 200 acres of land.  

Wright’s mill farm is a Connecticut gem of a venue. The barn itself is modern, and large, open and clean.  It looks out over the hills and valleys and has a large outdoor patio.  The food is fantastic.  There is a bridal suite on property.  

The grounds are incredible and spread out on many acres featuring so many photo opportunities including a covered bridge, two barns and a pond and the ceremony area nestled in the forest with a small stream and waterfall. The venue is secluded and the scenery is breathtaking!!

A horse drawn carriage can be added to bring guests and the bride and wedding party to the ceremony area as well as portraits to follow.

The Lodge at Maneeleys

South Windsor, Connecticut

The Lodge at Maneeleys is a clean, modern rustic chic venue in South Windsor on 5 acres of land.  I would describe it as light and airy, clean, modern open and spacious. The barn is the showcase of the venue. A small bridal suite is on the property. They have been hosting weddings for over 25 years. The staff is friendly and there to help.

Mill Pond Gathering

Northford, Connecticut

Mill Pond Gathering is new, modern rustic/chic, restaurant, tavern and wedding venue in Northford, Connecticut

 

The venue hall is new, clean, open, post and beam construction with concreate floors.  There is a small bridal suite on location as well as a ceremony loft for the bride and groom for indoor ceremonies. A large bar is present in the hall.  On site kitchen.  Warm and comfortable feel. The farm next door can be used for ceremony photos and portraits as well.

The Heritage Hotel is a rustic hotel in Southbury, Connecticut featuring a lovely timber room for hosting your wedding.  An all-in-one place venue including hotel accommodation, spa, golf course, venue, getting ready rooms. pool and gym as well as tavern for afterparty makes for great wedding getaway for you and your guests.  The vineyard on property makes for beautiful photos as well as some access to the golf course for photos as well as the green and gazebo in the front of the venue.  The rock garden is a great place for your wedding ceremony.
